Gluten Free Apps

We're always adding helpful content, updating resources, and improving the functionality of GlutenFreeTravelSite and our free companion mobile app, Dine Gluten Free. But for those of you who haven't visited for a while -- or may not be aware of all the ways these valuable resources can help you DINE & TRAVEL gluten free more easily, we thought it might be time for a reminder... First Stop (if you need it): An Overview Under the RESOURCES tab within the navigation bar on our website, there's a section of the site called About Celiac & Gluten Sensitivity that contains 12 "chapters" of information that are helpful to both new and veteran gluten free folks. And if you have friends or family members that need to understand your diet better, send them a link to this page for answers to the questions they may have (sometimes it's easier when it comes from an impartial source!). Also, if you have a friend that suspects gluten may be adversely affecting their health, by all means, pass along this information to them. It could provide the spark that leads them to get tested. We've tried to make the explanations about Celiac, gluten sensitivity, and a... Read more →

I have exciting news to share about some new and helpful functionality we recently added to GlutenFreeTravelSite and our DINE GLUTEN FREE mobile app (free and available for iOS and Android). We know some of you only feel comfortable eating at restaurants, cafes, and bakeries that are 100% dedicated gluten free establishments. So we wanted to make it easier for you to find these places among all the great gluten free dining reviews on our website and app. Now, when you do a geographic search on either GlutenFreeTravelSite or our DINE GLUTEN FREE mobile app, the places that have been reviewed and are 100% dedicated gluten free will be indicated with the icon shown here. Whether you do a narrow search by town/zip OR conduct a broader search by state, province, region, or country, you'll see places within the listing marked with the icon. When searching broadly, you can even sort the display by selecting Dedicated GF. Then the dedicated gluten free businesses will appear at the top of the list. Some of my own family's personal favorite dedicated gluten free spots include Sweet Christine's Bakery in Kennett Square, PA; One Dish Cuisine in Ellicott City, MD; Gluuteny in Pittsburgh;... For over six years, GlutenFreeTravelSite, our website with thousands of user-submitted gluten free dining and travel reviews from around the world, has been helping people learn about the most "gluten-free friendly" places to dine. Together with our just updated DINE GLUTEN FREE mobile app -- and our Gluten Free Travel Blog -- we offer the most comprehensive source of worldwide dining and travel guidance, from a gluten free perspective. As you know, GlutenFreeTravelSite and our just updated DINE GLUTEN FREE mobile app (free for iOS and Android) include personal reviews of restaurants, bakeries, markets, hotels, resorts, and cruises -- submitted by people all over the world. Unlike other gluten free restaurant finders, ALL restaurants and other businesses must be reviewed -- not just listed or rated -- to appear on our site and app. That way, users always benefit from personal, peer feedback. If you don't see one of your favorite GF-friendly places when you search our site or app, then by all means, please take a few minutes to review it! You can do this from our website or right from the app. With our recent app update, it's now even easier to search reviews of places outside the... Read more →

As many of your know, this Gluten Free Travel Blog is an offshoot of our popular website, GlutenFreeTravelSite, which was launched over five years ago. I created the website so people would have an easy way to search for "gluten free friendly" places to dine wherever they were planning to travel -- in the U.S. and in other countries. But rather than just providing a name and address of a restaurant (or market, hotel/inn/resort, or bakery), I felt it was essential to include REVIEWS from gluten free folks who'd been there. After all, you want to know as much as you can about a place before dining there, right? For example, do they have a gluten free menu, items marked as GF on the regular menu, or a chef who is able to tailor many items on the menu to make them gluten free? Do they have a dedicated fryer for french fries, chicken wings, or other fried items? (If they make claims that their fried items are gluten free without having a dedicated fryer, you know to be extremely cautious about dining there in the first place!) Are they careful about avoiding cross contamination in other ways? Do they... Read more →

Many of you had used our mobile version of GlutenFreeTravelSite in the past, which enabled you to access our thousands of dining and travel reviews when "on the go." This mobile version will still appear anytime you enter our URL into the browser of any smart phone. However, for those of you who prefer to have a handy app on your phone, you'll be pleased to hear that the DINE GLUTEN FREE app is free and available for both iOS and Android devices. The improvements we've made make it more user-friendly than our mobile version, and there are a lot of great new features, too. Now, in addition to searching by town or zip code to access thousands of REVIEWS of GF-friendly places reviewed by other gluten free diners, you'll also be able to: Submit Your Own Review -- right from your smart phone Access a list of many Chain Restaurants that offer Gluten Free Menus -- and click through to get information about each restaurant, including links to their GF Menu, locations, coupons, Facebook page, and more! Easily use the "near2there" Reminder Service which will allow you to save "must try" restaurants and other GF-friendly businesses located in places... Read more →
