gluten free B&Bs

I always get so excited to share our new gluten free travel discoveries with you, and today is no exception! We've learned about an exotic resort situated on a cliff edge next to rainforests and a waterfall in one of the world's most beautiful tropical beach towns...Montezuma, Costa Rica. Best of all, the resort has been completely gluten free for almost two years. It's part of their mission to provide their guests with healthy food -- which also means a focus on food that's natural, organic, and local. The resort is dairy free, too, and they can even accommodate other dietary restrictions. All you need to do is let them know! The resort is called Anamaya, meaning "good health" in Sanskrit. While you can stay at this beautiful oasis for any reason, most people flock here for the yoga retreats and/or the surfing lessons. (The resort is just 40 minutes from Santa Teresa and its famous surf spots -- and just minutes away from other amazing beaches for surfing.) You can do one, the other, or a combination of both (yoga helps work on strength and balance -- key for surfing!). There's also the option to get scuba certified. Of... Read more →

Recently, one of our favorite gluten-free friendly inns changed hands. You probably recall me publishing a few posts about the Inn on Randolph, a top-rated and totally gluten free B&B in Napa, California. Renovated several years ago by the previous owner (who was Celiac), this historic property has all the modern amenities discerning travelers have come to expect. The best news is that the new owners have continued their commitment to the gluten free community by continuing in the tradition of offering a 100% gluten free kitchen. You'll still be able to enjoy the wonderful 2-course homemade breakfasts full of gluten free specialties, in addition to hors d'oeuvres or afternoon snacks. No matter what time of year you're looking for an escape, the Inn on Randolph is the perfect destination. Nestled in the heart of Napa, you're within walking distance of restaurants (including many with carefully crafted gluten free offerings) and shops. You're surrounded by gorgeous vineyards and not far from bustling San Francisco if you're looking for a high-energy day trip. As you can imagine, guests have a hard time leaving the Inn, with its charm, pampering, and wonderful cooking. Fortunately, for those who want to prolong that pampered... Read more →

With the Holidays winding down and winter in full swing, perhaps you'd like to put something on the calendar to look forward to...something to get you through the winter doldrums. The Inn on Randolph, the top rated B&B in Napa, California's wine country, occasionally hosts gluten-free cooking and baking classes over a weekend at the Inn. This time, it's a three day class back by popular demand...taught by their Executive Chef Paul Fields, from January 29-31. Known for his innovative gluten-free breakfasts, Chef Paul will share his techniques, as well as one of his most-requested recipes! The meals at the Inn are entirely gluten-free all the time (the owner herself has been gluten free for years), so they have perfected the art of wonderful gluten-free cuisine! Staying at this recently renovated and luxurious inn is the perfect balance of Old World Victorian charm and modern amenities. I have exciting news to share about some new and helpful functionality we recently added to GlutenFreeTravelSite and our DINE GLUTEN FREE mobile app (free and available for iOS and Android). We know some of you only feel comfortable eating at restaurants, cafes, and bakeries that are 100% dedicated gluten free establishments. So we wanted to make it easier for you to find these places among all the great gluten free dining reviews on our website and app. Now, when you do a geographic search on either GlutenFreeTravelSite or our DINE GLUTEN FREE mobile app, the places that have been reviewed and are 100% dedicated gluten free will be indicated with the icon shown here. Whether you do a narrow search by town/zip OR conduct a broader search by state, province, region, or country, you'll see places within the listing marked with the icon. When searching broadly, you can even sort the display by selecting Dedicated GF. Then the dedicated gluten free businesses will appear at the top of the list. Some of my own family's personal favorite dedicated gluten free spots include Sweet Christine's Bakery in Kennett Square, PA; One Dish Cuisine in Ellicott City, MD; Gluuteny in Pittsburgh;... Have you dreamed of getting away to a beautiful and relaxing B&B where every detail is thought of -- including gluten free meals? If you thought a place didn't exist, I'm here to tell you it does...and best of all, it's located in one of the most picturesque and wonderful places in the U.S.: Napa Valley's wine country. Having lived in San Francisco myself many years ago -- and spent numerous weekends venturing up to Napa and Sonoma with my husband -- I can tell you that it's a place like no other. I was so thrilled to learn a year ago that Karen Lynch, gluten free herself for nearly a decade, had restored a historic home and several cottages on a beautiful piece of property in the heart of downtown Napa...and turned it into a B&B called the Inn on Randolph. Although the food served has always been 100% gluten free, Karen didn't initially market the inn that way. But she soon realized her mission must be to make others like her aware that they could find a safe "home away from home" in Napa where they could relax and enjoy wonderful, safe meals as they explore the area.... You probably recall my mentioning the Inn on Randolph in past posts. It’s a 100% dedicated gluten free B&B in the heart of Napa Valley, run by proprietor Karen Lynch, who has been gluten free herself for the past 8 years. In addition to building a loyal following among gluten free travelers, the Inn on Randolph has the honor of being recognized as the #1 rated B&B in Napa overall on Trip Advisor. It’s no wonder, when you look at the beautiful restoration Karen undertook when she bought the historic property a few years ago. The guest rooms are gorgeous, as are the kitchen and dining areas. There are multiple buildings with guest rooms on the property, all with their own unique character and all containing the luxurious modern comforts guests desire. There’s even a small spa where you can relax with a massage after a day of sightseeing or wine tours. And you’ll be spoiled with wonderful gluten free breakfasts and appetizers before dinner. In fact, the Inn on Randolph has hired a new Head Chef, Ethan Speizer, who is producing some of the freshest and most inspired local cuisine around, often using organic produce sourced from the Inn’s... By now, you've likely heard me talk about The Inn on Randolph, a newly renovated and dedicated gluten free B&B in the heart of California's Napa Valley wine growing region. Owner Karen Lynch, gluten free herself for 7 years, has transformed this historic 19th century home into a luxurious and modern retreat. It offers the perfect getaway for gluten free travelers wishing to spend some time in this beautiful part of the country. As a guest at the Inn, you enjoy fabulous gluten free breakfasts and late afternoon appetizers...and you'll have your choice of several nearby restaurants that are just as gluten-free friendly. Karen occasionally hosts special events, and now she's offering a two-day Gluten Free/Allergen Free Baking Class with Master Chef Jeffrey Larsen from March 16-17, 2014. You'll check in at 12:30 on the 16th and then enjoy a lecture on gluten free baking where Chef Larsen will discuss flour varieties, baking techniques and tips, and how to set up a gluten free kitchen. Then you'll participate in a hands-on baking class in which you'll prepare breads, pizza, rolls, hamburger buns, and focaccia. After a break to relax, you'll nibble on gluten free appetizers, followed by dinner and dessert... Read more →

Have you longed to visit California's wine country but wondered where you'd stay -- and more importantly...where you'd eat? Thanks to Karen Lynch, proprietor of The Inn on Randolph, you can now visit Napa and Sonoma without any worries about how you'll safely follow your gluten free diet. Karen has been gluten free herself for 7 years. After purchasing the Inn, gutting it down to the studs, and transforming this historic 19th century home into a stunning and peaceful modern retreat, she decided that she wanted The Inn on Randolph to be a completely gluten free B&B. That was a year and half ago. Initially, she didn't broadcast the fact that she had a dedicated gluten free kitchen. Like many other gluten free innkeepers and restauranteurs, she worried it might "turn off" some prospective guests. So guests came and went -- and raved about the food -- not even knowing it was gluten free. In fact, The Inn on Randolph quickly ascended the rankings on Trip Advisor -- in large part due to the wonderful food -- and is now the #1 Rated Inn in Napa out of 84 inns! It was a visit by one particular guest, however, that... Read more →
