Special Gluten Free Events

With the Holidays winding down and winter in full swing, perhaps you'd like to put something on the calendar to look forward to...something to get you through the winter doldrums. The Inn on Randolph, the top rated B&B in Napa, California's wine country, occasionally hosts gluten-free cooking and baking classes over a weekend at the Inn. This time, it's a three day class back by popular demand...taught by their Executive Chef Paul Fields, from January 29-31. Known for his innovative gluten-free breakfasts, Chef Paul will share his techniques, as well as one of his most-requested recipes! The meals at the Inn are entirely gluten-free all the time (the owner herself has been gluten free for years), so they have perfected the art of wonderful gluten-free cuisine! Staying at this recently renovated and luxurious inn is the perfect balance of Old World Victorian charm and modern amenities. You'll enjoy an evening reception, cooking classes, delicious breakfasts, a wine tasting, and free time to explore the area's wineries and many gluten-free friendly restaurants. You can view the full itinerary here. This is a great opportunity to beat the winter doldrums and treat yourself to a fun and informative weekend kicking up your... Read more →

For those of you considering the upcoming 5-night Gluten Free Gourmet All-Inclusive Vacation to the luxury El Dorado Royal Resort along Mexico's Riviera Maya -- with Celiac expert Dr. Alessio Fasano as the featured guest -- I encourage you to take advantage of it. It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! There is still space available, but Lesley Hayden Hock, gluten free travel specialist at Travel Leaders agency (and the person working with Dr. Fasano and his team to plan this unforgettable trip), will need to hear from you by September 8, 2015. That's when a small deposit is due. El Dorado was voted by Conde Nast as one of the Top 100 Hotels in the World! The trip is a fantastic value -- and Lesley and Dr. Fasano's team have worked with El Dorado to ensure that there will be wonderful and safe gluten free options (and gluten free wines and other alcoholic beverages) at each meal. See the brochure below…and give Lesley a call at 800-487-6110 or email her at lhayden@travelleaders.com You can read more about the trip in my previous Blog post. Read more →

Have you attended any of the gluten-free Expos around the country? There are several companies that host them, and we share them on our Dine Gluten Free mobile app, under GF Events. Unfortunately, if you don't live in a city where they're held (and aren't in the position to travel to one), you're out of luck. Or maybe you're like me…there's a good one held annually here in the Washington, DC area, but I haven't always been able to attend, due to family commitments and other scheduling conflicts. It's reasons like these that inspired the folks at Simply Gluten-Free magazine to launch a VIRTUAL Gluten-Free EXPO…one that you can attend right from the comfort of your own home -- and at any time that's convenient for you! Although not exactly like being "on the floor" of a live expo, you'll enjoy many of the same benefits…access to free samples, coupons, and engaging information from gluten-free experts. The team at Simply Gluten-Free has been hard at work registering vendors (if you haven't yet registered and are interested, contact Tracy Karp at 727-738-5735, or cell 727-288-1944). Every day more vendors are added to the Expo. And even though it's still a "work... Read more →

Those of you who've been following this Blog for a while know that one of my favorite gluten-free friendly chains is Burtons Grill. Although we don't have a location right near us, we've been lucky enough to visit several of their locations when traveling to the northeast (Massachusetts and Connecticut) and recently had the good fortune of dining at their location in Charlottesville, Virginia. This month, Burtons Grill is celebrating their 10-year anniversary (and they unveiled a beautiful new website). What began 10 years ago as one location in Hingham, Massachusetts has now grown into a 10-location restaurant group. From now until May 10, all Burtons Grill locations will be offering vouchers, loyalty prizes, flash sales, and sampling events (check out their Special Events page for details). When you dine at any of their locations, you'll have a chance to "roll the dice" for instant prizes and giveaways. This anniversary falls right in the middle of Celiac Awareness Month, and that's another reason to celebrate. Burtons Grill has unveiled a new Spring and Summer Menu that includes new "gluten sensitive" items. For those of you who've dined at any Burtons Grill, you know they already have one of the most... If you're gluten free, it's hard to beat the sheer thrill of discovering gluten-free friendly destinations. It's absolute heaven to discover a destination where you can dine on gourmet gluten-free specialties for every meal without worry. If it's in Tuscany, Italy, it's even better…. Some of you may recall the week-long gluten-free culinary events hosted by Jovial Foods (maker of divine gluten-free pasta and sauces) at a historic 18th century Tuscan villa. They hold these events once or twice a year -- Fall and late Spring -- and every time I write about it, it's pure torture. That's because attending one of these unique gluten-free culinary weeks is on my own personal Bucket List. Unfortunately, however, these gluten-free getaways are typically scheduled during times of the year when our kids are in school. But someday, perhaps…. If you're lucky enough to have the flexibility to travel in October, a particularly beautiful month in Italy, you'll want to consider treating yourself to this special vacation. And, in fact, you may not need to treat yourself…Jovial Foods may just treat you to a complimentary visit. Between now and June 30, 2015, you can enter their drawing for a free week (airfare and... Have you dreamed of getting away to a beautiful and relaxing B&B where every detail is thought of -- including gluten free meals? If you thought a place didn't exist, I'm here to tell you it does...and best of all, it's located in one of the most picturesque and wonderful places in the U.S.: Napa Valley's wine country. Having lived in San Francisco myself many years ago -- and spent numerous weekends venturing up to Napa and Sonoma with my husband -- I can tell you that it's a place like no other. I was so thrilled to learn a year ago that Karen Lynch, gluten free herself for nearly a decade, had restored a historic home and several cottages on a beautiful piece of property in the heart of downtown Napa...and turned it into a B&B called the Inn on Randolph. Although the food served has always been 100% gluten free, Karen didn't initially market the inn that way. But she soon realized her mission must be to make others like her aware that they could find a safe "home away from home" in Napa where they could relax and enjoy wonderful, safe meals as they explore the area....
