Sad news...Mr. Ritt's gluten-free bakery in Millville, NJ is closing in a couple months. They've been in business for over 10 years and offer a wide array of delicious gluten-free baked goods, which are available to ship. They also have a large selection of their own gluten-free flours and mixes. They'll be baking until at least the end of May and won't close until late July, so you still have an opportunity to stock up on many of their wonderful products, many of which are on sale now. For more information, and to learn about their future plans, visit their site at Read more →

We visited a Target in our area yesterday that recently expanded their grocery section. In addition to marveling about their wonderful selection of national brands, Archer Farms private label items, and even gourmet items, we were thrilled to see an end-cap display of GLUTEN FREE ITEMS. Yes, they are worthy of an end-cap (see below)!! There were gluten-free flours, cake mixes, pasta, crackers, cereals, cookies, breakfast bars, mac-n-cheese, snack foods, and more! And there were more gluten-free items mixed into the other aisles as well. You probably can't find all your favorite gluten-free grocery items there, but you can definitely "get by" with their selection of some of the better tasting products, like the kid-friendly gluten-free mac-n-cheese by Annie's, EnviroKidz cereals. Glutino pretzels, and cake mixes from Betty Crocker and Bob's Red Mill. My only complaint -- and this pretty much applies to ALL grocery stores -- is that, aside from this one end-cap display, the gluten-free items are scattered about, so you really have to scour each aisle looking for that "gluten-free needle in a haystack" hidden among glutenous items. It would be so much easier to dedicate an aisle or two to ALL the gluten-free items. The store... Read more →

Great Website for Your The Best Gluten-Free Foods (as well as some great hard-to-find brands)

I was just introduced to a website called Allergies and Me where 98% of the items available on the site are gluten-free! And let me tell you, they offer QUITE an extensive assortment...among the best I've seen. But even better than the sheer number of gluten-free items available are the wonderful products they sell. They seem to stock only the best-tasting gluten-free foods, and I saw some of my favorite brands that are often VERY hard to find in stores: 1-2-3 Gluten Free (one of my favorite brands for gluten-free baking mixes -- they are excellent!), Authentic Foods and Cravings Place (two other companies with great baking mixes), Schar (in my opinion, the best gluten-free pasta, and near us it's only available at Wegman's), and Orgran. They also carry Enjoy Life gluten-free granola cereals and Glutenfreeda gluten-free oatmeal varieties. Browsing their assortment, there are some products I've never seen that I'll CERTAINLY be trying, like Biscottea's "Chai Tea Shortbread." Doesn't that sound amazing? And gluten-free, too!! The owner of Allergies and Me has offered to give customers referred by GlutenFreeTravelBlog and GlutenFreeTravelSite a 10% discount on their orders now through June 1, 2010. Simply enter code DCGFTS during the checkout... Read more →

It's just come to my attention, in this official start to Baseball season, that the top three ballpark concessionaires (Aramark, Delaware North, and Centerplate) are adding more gluten-free (and vegetarian) options to their food assortment. Aramark, which handles concessions for the Boston Red Sox, Colorado Rockies, and New York Mets, among others, will be offering gluten-free food like hot dogs, hamburgers, and gluten-free beer at all 14 of their ballparks.
