Legal Seafoods Offers Gluten Free Reviewers Chance to Win $25 Gift Card

Today, we highlight the gluten free offerings at Legal Seafood and give you a chance to win a $25 Gift Card to use at any of their 33 restaurants. I remember 9 years ago when our 22 month old son Ryan was diagnosed with Celiac Disease. Back then, most people hadn't heard of Celiac Disease. We certainly hadn't. And Ryan was the first patient our pediatrician had diagnosed with the disease (and he has a huge practice with thousands of patients). After the diagnosis, the initial panic about what we would feed our son quickly dissipated as I buried myself in research both online and offline.
But as well all know, it's relatively easy maintain a high degree of control in one's own kitchen. It can be an entirely different story when dining out (at least it certainly was in 2005!). If it took me a couple weeks to get up to speed on the intricacies of what Ryan could and couldn't eat, the hidden sources of gluten, and how to avoid cross contamination, how in the world would we be able to succinctly convey this to restaurant staff when dining out? Could we even dine out?
Fortunately, we learned of a few restaurant chains that were real trail blazers...offering actual Gluten Free Menus (the Holy Grail!). Legal Seafoods was one of those restaurants. Lucky for us, there were some locations in the Washington DC Metro area where we live.
To this day, Legal Seafoods remains one of the most highly-regarded "gluten free friendly restaurants" with a reputation for safe practices. And they don't just take the path of least resistance, offering steamed, plain fish. No, they try to give gluten free diners the same experience as all their guests, with gluten free rolls delivered to the table and plentiful gluten free menu choices. Options on Legal Seafood Lunch and Dinner Gluten Free Menus range from hot lump crab dip, crispy calamari, clam chowder, cioppino, seafood casserole, fish and chips, fried shrimp and scallops, and so much more (even steaks, chicken, and salads if you're not a seafood lover).
Of course, there are healthier preparations of grilled fish with many choices of gluten free spice rubs and gourmet butters to jazz up the flavor, but when you're someplace that actually goes out of their way to offer gluten free fried seafood favorites, you almost have to take advantage of that and save the grilled fish for another time -- right?! And of course, there's always the option of ordering a Lobster Bake!
