As you know, I've been trying to get the word out about the growing number of gluten free skin care lines. I just wanted to share a quick post today about one I've personally tried -- a wonderful skin care line that's free of gluten...and that I'm currently using (the company has a line of high-quality gluten free vitamin supplements, too, so read on). In the past 15+ years, I really started scrutinizing the skin care products I used. Good products can be expensive, and I wanted to make sure I was getting the most for my money. Just as I've always been very vigilant reading labels to find out what is in the foods I buy, I've also become more interested in what ingredients are in the personal care products I use. I've become aware of some of the harmful chemicals allowed in skin care, hair care, and cosmetics in this country -- ingredients that are not even allowed in Europe and other parts of the world. That's why I was excited to try Arbonne's skin care products. I'd heard a lot about them over the years from neighbors and friends. But it wasn't until recently that I decided... Read more →

I wanted to share this easy, tasty recipe for Pumpkin Muffins (good any time of year!), adapted to be GLUTEN FREE from a recipe my older son made in his Family and Consumer Science course in Middle School (the modern-day term for what we called "Home Ec" back in my day!) I love the assortment of gluten-free flour blends on the market now -- so many good ones to choose from. Substituting them cup-for-cup for "regular" flours makes adapting recipes like this so easy. We used King Arthur gluten free multi-purpose blend, since it's easy to find in stores near us, but you can use another favorite brand of your choosing. Gluten Free Pumpkin Muffins Ingredients: Dry: 1 1/2 cup gluten free flour blend (we used King Arthur's GF multi-purpose flour) 1 1/2 cup sugar 1 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 Tablespoon pumpkin pie spice Wet: 1 cup pumpkin 1/4 cup vegetable oil 1/4 cup orange juice 2 teaspoons vanilla 2 eggs Topping: 1 Tablespoon Turbinado sugar or confectioners sugar Directions: 1.) Preheat oven to 350 degrees. 2.) Line muffin pans with 12 paper liners and spray lightly with non-stick spray (or spray non-stick spray directly in muffin... Read more →

Removing toxins from the body. Restoring nutrients. Fortifying the immune system. Nourishing the body. I can't tell you how long I've wanted to try some sort of cleansing program or "detox" diet. But it just never seemed like the right time. After all, it's usually a bit of work, requires you to eat new and different foods (and depriving you of some of your favorites!), and can make any social plans revolving around food a real challenge. I also wondered how I'd feel on a cleansing diet...if I'd have "withdrawal" headaches, be cranky, or feel energy-deprived. My husband happened upon Dr. Alejandro Junger's "CLEAN" program last year and gave it a try -- by himself. One of my husband's clients is a health-related company, and he wanted to try the cleanse to see what it was all about. For various reasons, I decided to wait until another time to join in. Fast forward a year later, and we decided to do the program together, somewhat of a "Spring cleaning" of our bodies, if you will. This time, instead of doing the full 3-week cleanse program as my husband had done last year, we deciced to "split" the Clean program and... Read more →
