Gluten Free London

Italy and London remain two of the most popular travel destinations. And the great news is that BOTH countries can be easily enjoyed, even if you're on a gluten free diet due to medical reasons (Celiac or gluten sensitivity). In fact, I found that both destinations are, in many ways, easier than the U.S. in terms of the level of knowledge for preparing safe, gluten free meals. They take gluten free diners seriously, as everyone should. Now, don't get me wrong...that doesn't mean you can eat anywhere. No, there's a lot of planning that needs to go into any trip to either Italy or London if you're gluten free. That is, you'll want advice and feedback on the BEST places to dine in each destination. In today's do-it-yourself world, many people don't see a need for help with planning a trip. They figure they can hop online and book something on their own. However, there are a few potential pitfalls with this strategy. Let's start with the most obvious: it can take a while to gather the information you need before making a decision. You may sit down at your computer, only to find that, hours later, you're overwhelmed with the choices and no further along in making a decision. Another pitfall is that booking hotels, resorts, and apartments site unseen can often result in disappointment, even if you read online reviews. And beware that deals that sound too good to be true usually are. A promotion from a reputable hotel chain to a popular tropical locale that was offered to my mother last year sounded like a great deal. However, upon further digging, we found out that it was in a less-than-desirable area of the popular resort town -- and the resort itself was under major renovation, with construction equipment everywhere. Good thing we did our research, because if we had booked this trip, it likely would have been a disaster. The whole experience... Read more →

Are you thinking about visiting London? Maybe you even already have a trip planned for the spring or summer.... London continues to rank high on travelers' Bucket Lists, and it offers something for everyone...no matter what your age or what your interests. When we took our sons there, we had such a fantastic time. Between the range of tourist sites, world-class museums, and fascinating history, we were captivated. And any fears we had about finding restaurants that could serve our son safe gluten free meals were quickly dispelled. That's because I'd done my homework. As always, the hours of advance research had paid off. While we can all probably agree that there's not a lot of spontaneity when following a gluten free diet when traveling, researching and planning where you'll eat in advance saves you from having to scramble each day. The more planning you can do, the more seamless your trip will be. If you have a plan, you'll be able to relax and focus on enjoying the experiences -- without scrambling at mealtime to find restaurants nearby that might offer gluten free options. I put all the knowledge we acquired in our 10-day stay into an e-book called... Read more →
